Corrugation Nation drop-off dates are just around the corner!

March 19, 2012 Waterfall Arts by Meg Fournier

Corrugation Nation drop off dates are just around the corner!

Waterfall Arts invites artists of all ages to contribute artwork made of cardboard for its upcoming show titled Corrugation Nation. The show opens on April 6th (don’t miss the opening reception from 5-8) and runs through May 18th.

Cardboard is inexpensive, durable and available almost everywhere. It is also the single largest component of municipal solid waste around the world. What better way to recycle than to make furniture and artwork out of cardboard!

Looking for some inspiration? Check out the following YouTube video and links:

For the exhibit, at least 60% of the artwork must be corrugated cardboard, the kind cardboard boxes are made of, with fluted or honey-comb corrugation as a structural basis, as opposed to paperboard, which cereal boxes are made of. Other media may be included in the piece, such as paint, wood, wire, fiber, glue, etc. Works may be 2-D, relief, 3-D, video, kinetic or performance-based. While there is no size limitation, works absolutely must be display-ready with appropriate hanging devices already attached (if not, they will not be hung). All works must be appropriate for all audiences.

Corrugation Nation work drop off dates and times (at 256 High Street):

Thursday, March 29th: 12-7pm

Friday, March 30th: 12-5pm

Saturday, March 30th: 12-5pm

Welcome Kimberly Callas, the new Belfast Creative Coalition Coordinator

February 08, 2012 Waterfall Arts by Meg Fournier

The Belfast Creative Coalition, a group composed of Waterfall Arts, Our Town Belfast and the City of Belfast, has named Kimberly Callas of Brooks as the organization's creative economy coordinator. We are pleased to invite the community to meet Kimberly and the members of the Coalition on Thursday evening, February 16th at the Belfast City Council Chambers from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Please stop by and meet Kimberly, say hello and share your thoughts about the upcoming year. Light refreshments will be provided.

The position was created through a $50,000 Maine Arts Commission "Creative Communities = Economic Development" grant as a way to connect the many art-related organizations in Waldo County, a project that Callas considers already well underway.

The Belfast-based coalition was one of two in the state to receive the grant this year — the other was in Waterville. The group is hoping to coordinate creative groups throughout Waldo County. Callas was picked from a field of 20 applicants. Her credentials include serving recently on the board of Midcoast Magnet and the Juice Conference Steering Committee. She has worked with nonprofits and universities for more than 15 years and was a founding member of Newforest Institute in Brooks. She is also an artist who has exhibited in local galleries.

2011/12 Branching out: Call for applications!

October 27, 2011 Waterfall Arts by Meg Fournier

Annually, Waterfall Arts in Belfast matches area youth with professional artists of similar interests for a short-term mentoring program. The teams make artwork on an environmental theme, culminating in a collaborative public exhibition. Media can include: sculpture, painting, photography, video, movement, performance, animation, installation, and more.

This year’s theme, water, focuses on a wide range of topics, including water conservation, water as a resource, and preserving the beauty and intrinsic value of aquatic landscapes. This launching point for the artist/mentor pairs is embedded in our mission: Creating community in harmony with nature through the transformative power of the arts!
