Waterfall Arts invites artists of all ages to contribute artwork made of cardboard for its upcoming show titled Corrugation Nation. The show will run from April 6 until May 18, with a festive opening on Friday, April 6 from 5 to 7pm.
Cardboard is inexpensive, durable and available almost everywhere. It is also the single largest component of municipal solid waste around the world. What better way to recycle than to make furniture and artwork out of cardboard! For the exhibit, at least 50% of the artwork must be corrugated cardboard, the kind cardboard boxes are made of, with fluted or honey-comb corrugation as a structural basis, as opposed to paperboard, which cereal boxes are made of. Other media may be included in the piece, such as paint, wood, wire, fiber, glue, etc. Works may be 2-D, relief, 3-D, video, kinetic or performance-based, and will be displayed throughout Waterfall Arts in Belfast. While there is no size limitation, works absolutely must be display-ready with appropriate hanging devices already attached (if not, they will not be hung). All works must be appropriate for all audiences.
Corrugation Nation work should be dropped off at Waterfall Arts, 256 High Street in Belfast, from 12 to 7 Thursday, March 29 and from 12 to 5pm on Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31. It is recommended that all artwork be for sale, but if artists want to retain their pieces, they may mark then as not for sale. During drop off, artists will be asked if they are willing to donate their piece to a fundraising raffle. The raffle will take place at the closing party on May 18 with ticket sales benefitting Waterfall Arts programs. Some of the donated work will be featured on the Waterfall Arts website and raffle tickets will be available for purchase during the exhibit. Pick-up of unsold work will be Tuesday, May 22 from 10 to 5. Any works not claimed by that date will be recycled or discarded.
