OPEN CALL FOR ART : The earth Show
In the spirit of last year’s Open Call Show, Corrugation Nation, Waterfall Arts seeks
new art for its upcoming spring 2013 Open Call exhibit, earth. Organizer Abbie Read says, “earth as raw material, earth as an ecology, earth as the planet, earth as a concept and earth as you know it, are all equally welcomed interpretations for submission. What is earth to you?”
This Open Call seeks to bring together artists young and old, professional and novice, in a spirit of experimentation and free expression around the theme of our common experience of earth. We live on it as a planet, but we also are intimate with it at every level of our lives, from the dirt under our fingernails after a day in the garden to digging and working with clay, to slipping over rocks at low tide and to the roaring molten river of a volcano halfway across the world. We depend on earth in one form or another for almost all our needs. We love it, abuse it, dig our toes and heels into it, mine it, ignore it, care for it and immortalize it, but we can’t forget about it. We are immersed in it like fish in water. Art creates and communicates awareness of our many living relationships, and this exhibit encourages increased awareness of earth .
Art work can be two or three dimensional or video but cannot exceed 4 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet and must be able to be installed by Waterfall Arts staff and volunteers; artists may also install their own work.
The exhibit will be on display from April 5 until May 24, 2013, with an opening reception on Friday, April 5th from 5 to 8pm. Work must be delivered Tuesday, March 26 through Friday, March 29. Artists of all ages and levels are encouraged to make fresh and exciting work for this show. We encourage thinking out of the box. All work submitted that is ready for hanging or installing will be displayed.
Submitted art work can be for sale or not as the artist chooses. Unsold work must be picked up immediately after the show closes, by May 29.
