Waterfall Arts is pleased to announce two nights of musical performance - “Little Things You Do Together": a Sondheim Revue on Friday and Saturday May 6 and 7 beginning at 7:30 in the Fallout Shelter performance space.
The performances are a fundraiser for the arts organization to support its programs and activities .The organizers describe it as "An opportunity to showcase amazing local musical talent as well as to bring live performance of music theatre to Belfast. It is our delayed Birthday tribute to Stephen Sondheim, arguably, the pre-eminent creative talent in Musical Theatre today."
Sondheim's musicals can be characterized as the perfect blend of deep feeling and worldly wit, nicely paired with rich composition and fascinating plots. From mothers to lovers, to assassins and ingénues, Sondheim captures the essence of being alive, sometimes with a bite, often with great tenderness. His songs have inspired generation after generation of theatre goers and performers, starting in the 1950s with his lyrics to "West Side Story," through his Tony award-winning "Into the Woods" from the 1980s, and finally "Passion" in the 1990s, and countless revivals of his work into the 21st century.
Performers include: Charlie Grey, Dee Bielenberg, Erik Perkins, llyse Laurel, Kirk Moore, Kristen Burkholder, Mary Ann Valaitis Whaley, Morten Moesswilde, Nancy Riesgo, Ruth Gelsinger, Scott Anthony Smith and William Ryan The program will include selections from some of Sondheim's best known shows as well as a few gems from his early career with solos, duets, and three group pieces. The singers and accompanists will perform 20 of Sondheim's songs.
