Koichiro Kurita talk on Thursday, October 20th

Master fine art photographer, Koichiro Kurita, known for his elegant large format platinum/palladium prints will give a talk about his work this Thursday (October 20th) at 7:00 pm in the Clifford Gallery. Kurita’s "Meditations on Thoreau" exhibit is currently on display in the gallery through November 23rd.  Ed Earle, curator at the International Center of Photography in New York City, will introduce Kurita, place his work in an historical photographic context and lead the conversation.

 

Kurita is the Director of the Beyond Spheres Project which will follow the footsteps of Henry David Thoreau (1817– 1862) in a multi-year project. He has been photographing in the US since he received a grant from the Asian Cultural Council (part of John D. Rockefeller III Fund) in 1990. His prints are exhibited internationally and collected by major museums including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Princeton Art Museum, the Fogg Museum Harvard University, George Eastman House, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Los Angeles County Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Tokyo Fuji Art Museum, Maison de Europeanne de la Photographie, Biblioteque Nationale de France, among others.

 

General admission at the door is $7 and students are admitted free. Kurita’s talk is sponsored by Consumers Fuel and Cold Mountain Builders.

 

Koichiro Kurita will also be leading workshops on Platinum/Palladium printing at Waterfall Arts in Montville beginning Friday (October 20th).
